YOUR HOTSPOT FOR GAMES AND COMPETITION
1. The game
You play Klaverjassen with
4 people
strict. The
players on eachothers opposites are team-mates.
This means North & South are allied and so are East
and West. You are South, the other 3 players are
controlled by the computer. You play this card game
with
32 cards
7-ace
) You win by gathering more
points than the other team.
At the start of a round, each player has
8 cards
. After
the dealer has dealt the cards the player to the
dealers
right
must cut. He decides if he plays or
passes on the current trump card. The first round
exists out of
8 tricks
. Every player plays one card in
each trick.
The player at the right side of the dealer
always opens a game
. The next player that opens a
trick is the winner of the last trick. Each trick will be
served
clock-wise
. After
16 rounds
of 8 tricks the
winner will be decided.
After a trick the winner is the player with the highest
card. At the end of a round the points you scored in
the round will be added to your total score.
Lets take a closer look at how a trick will be played.
One player opens the trick. The others have to play a
card of the same kind. Like a harts on harts. If you
cant serve that which is asked, you must play a
trump card. If someone else already played a trump,
you must trump over with a higher trump.
If you cant serve nor trump over, you may play a
random card.
The trump in a round isnt just one card, its all the
cards of a specific type. But youll notice that once
you start playing.
So to sum things up.
If you cant serve what is asked,
trump. If someone trumped already, trump over
(Unless it is your ally, in that case you are allowed
play any trump in your deck).
If trumps are asked,
you must always trump over
If you cant trump you
may throw something else
. The one who wins the
trick has the freedom to decide which card he wants
to start the next trick with.
The points go to the one who wins the trick.
2 The order of the value of the cards
Non-trump
Card
Ace Ten King Queen Jack
Points
11 10 4 3 2
Trump
Card
Jack Nine Ace Ten King Queen
Points
20 14 11 10 4 3
Cards not mentioned do not have any points.
If the last trick is yours, 10 points extra are for you!
The order and scores mentioned in the previous
section may be a bit hard to remember quickly. But
dont worry. Ingame theres a button that will pop up
a screen that will show you the points and rankings
again. Youll be able to find the button at the right top
corner of the playscreen and it looks like this:
Show card ranking and points
3 How does a basic round start
First the cards will be shuffled. The player next to the
card shuffler decides if he/she plays on the trump
card. If that player thinks he/she could get more than
points (half of the total round points) he/she
should play. Otherwise he/she should pass. If so, the
next player will decide if he/she plays on this same
trump. If everyone passes, the first player may
choose any trump but the one passed on.
If someone else plays, the player that had to make
the decision first may still open the first trick of the
round.
At the end of the round,
the team that played must
have more points than the other team to win. If they
dont, all points go to the other team
Then the next round will be played.
4 Meld (Roem)
The best translation I could find for the word roem
was the english word meld. But the dutch word roem
could also be read as: glory or fame. Meld points are
extra points besides the normal points and will also
be written down seperately.
Meld points will be given to the team that wins the
trick, and when there is a certain combination of
cards, well get to that part next...
You need keep the standard card order in mind.
If there are
three cards successive
to eachother, you
will earn
meld points.
If there are
four cards successive
to eachother, you
will earn
meld points.
If you have the
King and Queen of trump
in one trick
meld points for the trick winner.
Remember that it is possible to lose a round if your
opponents have too much roem. Also, if you play and
lose the round, your roem goes to your opponents.
5 Pit
Pit is like a
flawless victory
You have a pit, if you play and if
you won all tricks
You will receive another
88 bonus points
. These
points will be added as meld points.
Weve come to the end of the help section. Good luck
playing!
